#292 The obstacle course hidden beneath your goals

If you think you know how to write a story but never do it, do you really know how to write a story?

If you think you know how to do a yoga pose but never do it, do you really know how to do that yoga pose?

If you think you know how to apologize for a mistake but never do it, do you really know how to apologize?

If you know what you want to do but aren’t doing it, do you really know what you want?

Because hidden beneath your goals and technical step-by-step instructions to accomplish them, there’s an obstacle course of personal context, personal beliefs, past experiences, and emotions.

And these, you won’t discover in books or videos.

    These, you’ll encounter by doing.

And these, you’ll conquer by doing.

    #99 Why bother to journal?

Stream Of Consciousness writing isn’t about what you write. It’s about the very fact that you’re writing.

Nobody cares about the words on the pages. Nobody will read them anyway. Neither should you.

This is not a novel. This is not a love song. This is not a poem. This is but an externalization of your mind’s chatter. Ugly, pretty, insightful, bland. It doesn’t matter.

There’s no great work. Nor is there any bad work. No high standards, no judgment. Nothing but what flows out of your mind.

So if none of it matters… why bother to write Stream of Consciousness?

Because it forces you to slow down.

Because it forces you to pay attention to what’s on your mind.

Because it forces you to listen to the way you talk to yourself.

Because it helps you get all the overwhelming thoughts and worries out of your system.

Because it helps you gain clarity.

And because sometimes, insights emerge. Not necessarily in the words on the page. But due to the fact that you’re writing the words on the page.

Stream Of Consciousness journaling is writing. Venting. Self-therapy. Problem-solving. Meditation. Goal-setting. Creative liberation. And anything else you want it to be.

Because you have all of that in you already – if only you’d re-learn to listen.

And listening to yourself, it turns out, is much easier when you put it all on the page.

  • #362 Your perspective is defective

Change happens when you let go of defective perspectives about who you were, are, and could be.

What you used to do, are doing, and could do.

What’s possible for you, and what’s not.

Whatever your current perspective, it’s defective. Or at least incomplete.

Life is beautifully unpredictable. You are beautifully unpredictable.

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

#150 AI can write like us – but why do we write?

AI may write like us – but why do we write in the first place?

AI may translate what we say – but why do we say what we say in the first place?

AI may do what we do – but why do we do what we do in the first place?

Does AI merely regurgitate and build upon what we’ve already said and done?

Do we merely regurgitate and build upon what others have already said and done?

What drives our words and actions?
